A small studio for calm, lasting places.

Datum is 38 architects, interior designers and makers in Lisbon and Copenhagen. We take on a few projects each year and follow every one from the first visit to the day the keys change hands.

How we think

Three things we hold on to.

Light before form

We study where the sun rises and sets on every site before we draw a single wall. Rooms are placed by the hours they are used.

Few materials, used well

Most of our buildings use four or five materials. Fewer joints, fewer finishes and fewer things to repair in twenty years.

Design for the next owner

A good house outlives its first family. We plan rooms that can change use without walls coming down.
